Amir is a 12-year-old boy at the beginning of the book. Amir is sensitive and intelligent. Amir´s actions at the beginning of the book are selfish. He sets himself first and thinks he´s better than Hassan. He feels guilty for his actions later and therefore redeems himself later in the book. Amir has the best character development in the book. He goes from being a selfish child to a selfless adult. He regrets how he treated Hassan and redeemed himself by trying to find Hassan´s son and help him. Hassan is quite different from Amir. Hassan is more honourable than Amir. He does not lie and puts Amir before himself. The difference between the two is a big part of the book. He is selfless and street smart. Hassan is uneducated and therefore not book smart, but he is intelligent.
